Replacing Your Water Filter

For side-by-side refrigerators with filter access in the base grille, follow these instructions for replacing your filter:

Push the eject button, then pull the filter cap. Do not twist cap.
Remove the filter cap by turning it counter clockwise. Set aside cap. Discard old filter.
Remove the packaging and O-ring covers from the new filter.
Align arrows on the cap and new filter. Turn clockwise to snap in place.
Push filter into the base grill until the eject button pops. Gently tug on cap to ensure it is snug.
Flush the water system until a total of 3 gallons (12 L) has been dispensed.

There are so many things to see and do when you're camping - at least until the sun goes down. After dark, however, your options are more limited. And if it should happen to rain, that can restrict your activities even further.

A deck of cards can go a long way toward relieving some of the boredom at night or during a heavy rainfall. Following are some popular camping card games to play, as well as tips for making the experience fun for the whole group.

Popular Camping Card Games

The variety of games you can play with a deck of cards is nearly limitless; however, the trick is having someone available who knows the rules inside and out and can teach them to another player. When planning a camping trip, it's a good idea to have a few games you know extremely well in your back pocket, just in case.

The best card games for camping are simple enough that everyone can join, yet rousing enough to keep the group entertained. A few especially good ones include:

1. Spoons. Dig into the camping utensils and pull out enough spoons for the entire group, minus one, which should be piled in the middle of the table. The dealer doles out four cards each, then draws one from the pile and passes his or her discard to the left. That person takes the card, and discards to the next person, with the dealer drawing a new card each time. The first player to get four of a kind takes a spoon, and everyone else makes a grab for the spoons as well. The person left without a spoon is out.

2. Crazy Eights. Each person is dealt five cards, and the goal is to be the first to get rid of them all. The top card from the draw pile is turned over to start the discard pile. The player must either play a legal card on the discard pile (matching either the number or the suit of the top card) or draw from the draw pile. Eights are wild and can be played on top of any card; the player who plays an eight chooses the suit.

3. I Doubt It, or BS. This is a great game for larger groups, and it can get rambunctious. If you have more than five players, use a double deck. The entire deck is dealt out evenly, and the goal is to get rid of all your cards. The first player begins with aces, the next player must play twos, and so on. Cards are placed face down, and the player announces the how many of which card he or she is playing. Other players can challenge the play by declaring, "I doubt it!" If the claim was false, the person who made it must take all of the cards in the pile. If it was true, the doubter must take them.

Tips for Playing Cards at Night

Sufficient lighting is usually the biggest obstacle people face when playing cards in the great outdoors. Whether you're sitting under the night sky or huddled inside the tent to avoid the rain, it's a good idea to have multiple lighting sources available so everyone can comfortably see their cards.

LED lanterns are safest. Most campers like to set up a lantern or two in the common area so folks can find their way around without stumbling over coolers or other gear. While propane lanterns have been the most common choice in the past, many campers have begun choosing LED lanterns instead. Unlike their propane counterparts, LED lanterns burn cool to the touch and don't pose a fire hazard - this can be important when playing a game that requires people to reach across the table to play their cards. Using LED lanterns can prevent burns and are much safer if they are accidentally tipped over. Additionally, LED lanterns are safe to use inside a tent.

Equip everyone with LED flashlights. While LED lanterns are great for general area lighting, it's helpful if each player has individual LED flashlights as well. Some players may not be ideally positioned in relation to the lantern, which can throw a heavy shadow over their cards. Individual LED flashlights for extra illumination can prevent campers from straining their eyes.

Consider using LED headlamps. Even better than a hand-held flashlight, an LED headlamp can be worn on the forehead, so you don't have to perform a juggling act in order to view your cards. To avoid blinding other players, keep your LED headlamp on a dimmer setting, and choose a model that can be aimed downward so it isn't shining directly in people's eyes.

With the right lighting and a game everyone can enjoy, you can turn a typically boring evening around the campfire into a family bonding moment.
